The Beaches began as the pop punk quartet Done with Dolls, formed in their early teens by sisters Jordan and Kylie Miller, drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel, and guitarist Megan Fitchett. After touring with Allstar Weekend in 2011 and performing the theme song for the Family Channel series Really Me, Fitchett left in 2013. The remaining members added guitarist Leandra Earl and renamed themselves The Beaches, shifting to an alternative rock sound. They released two EPs, The Beaches (2013) and Heights (2014), before signing to Universal Music Canada in 2016.

Their debut album Late Show (2017), produced by Emily Haines and James Shaw of Metric, yielded the single 'T-Shirt', which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Canada Rock chart and was certified Gold. The band won the 2019 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year. Subsequent EPs The Professional (2019) and Future Lovers (2021) were combined into the compilation Sisters Not Twins (The Professional Lovers Album). The band independently released singles in 2022.

Their second album Blame My Ex (2023) included the viral TikTok hit 'Blame Brett', which became their second No. 1 on the Canada Rock chart. The album was nominated for the 2024 Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year and was longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. Their third album No Hard Feelings (2024) was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize. The band opened for the Rolling Stones in 2019 and at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in 2024, and for Louis Tomlinson on his 2026 world tour.
